Selected Poems of Anne of Tobermore
Before
In a time before now
In a place not this
There were people not us
And by their steps the world shook.
In the dawn before dusk
In all there was light
There were hearts not ours
And they drunk in the joy.
In a place before now
In a time not this
There was knowledge unbound
And the change it began.
In the dusk before dawn
In shadows they saw
There became the darkness
And the nightfall came.
In the night still here
In the place we stand
The people are gone
And by our steps the world shakes.
Dream Now
Dream now
Now that there is no more
Our hope has gone
The nightmare is here
Nevermore in your heart
All that remains
Are dreams
Haiku
Darkness has come now
Though we fought it since the dawn
It matters no more
The Stage
When the actor is on stage, what does he see?
The faces of the crowd?
Nothing but the scene?
Or only blackness?
The footlights do not show those who only watch.
Only those who act on the stage are seen.
But those who act are not alone.
If you cannot see it, it does not mean that it is not there.
The Sun at night is gone, and the moons in the day.
They are always there.
But which are you?
Which am I?
Actor?
Audience?
Or have we yet found the play...
The stages are all around us.
The actors play their parts.
The audience watches in judgement.
Which is more the fool?
A Limeric
There once was a man from Tobermore
Who everyone thought was a bore.
On the docks he would sit
And speak without wit.
Until someone hit him in the head with an oar.
